Julie Dubela, the Precocious

On her audition to the American Idol, she seemed pretty confident of herself.  Aware of the fact that she was at the top 20 of the American Juniors 4 years ago, Julie seemed to believe that the judges would definitely give her a thumbs up in this audition.  Sadly, it didn’t turn out the way she wanted it to be.  She was called “precocious”.  She couldn’t take the rejection and continued to sing another song.  So sad.  Watch Julie on this video and see her attitude until the end…

Precocious  means to exhibit mature qualities at an early age.  Why do I think he was talking about her attitude… was it all about her attitude?

… I feel sorry for the kid.. well, at least she can still be an actress =)

BBC News - Hollywood actor Heath Ledger  has been found dead at a residence in Manhattan.

“He was found unconscious at the apartment and pronounced dead,” the New York Police Department said, adding that pills were found near the body.

Police are reportedly investigating if the Australian actor, who earned an Oscar nomination for Brokeback Mountain, died of a drug overdose.

Father Kim Ledger said that the death of his 28-year-old “dearly loved son” had been “tragic” and “accidental”.

Speaking in the actor’s home town of Perth, in Western Australia, Mr Ledger said that his son had been a “down to earth, generous, kind hearted, life-loving, unselfish individual”.

“Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life that few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.”

The 28-year-old was found dead in the flat at 1526 (2026 GMT) on Tuesday.

New York police said they did not suspect foul play and that his body had been discovered surrounded by pills.

“We are investigating the possibility of an overdose,” police spokesman Paul Browne told Reuters news agency. “There were pills within the vicinity of the bed.”

The death of another young, talented actor leaves the Hollywood in shock.    I guess this is how fame and fortune can bring a person down, once he has become totally obsessed by it.  You just can’t have it all.  Heath Ledger was very young and had a promising career ahead of him…. and only drugs brought him down.

And I was looking forward to seeing him as the new Joker in the coming Batman movie….  sigh..what a waste….

The Eunuchs, etc.

Have you ever heard about the Hijra’s?

Hijra is a Hindi term traditionally translated into English as “eunuch”, which, as per Wikipedia’s definition, “refers to what modern Westerners would call male-to-female transgender people and effeminate homosexuals”. This word “eunuch” comes from the Greek word “eune”, which means “bed”, and “ekhein”, which means “to keep”.  Therefore, a Eunuch was a “bed keeper.”

Hijras are usually clothed in the traditional Indian garb worn by women, “saris” and wear heavy make-up. They typically live in the margins of society, face discrimination and earn their living in various ways – by coming uninvited at weddings, births, new shop openings and other major family events and singing until they are paid or given gifts to go away.  People believe that the Hijras possess certain occult powers and their blessings and curses are both powerful.  Some Hijras go through different processes of castration by which their unwanted male appendages are dispensed.  It’s almost like a ritual.  After this process, the new hijra is taught about the clan’s customs and traditions, and is fed and looked after well by fellow hijras until he feels a sense of security and well-being.

In the past, The hijras had virtually no safe spaces, not even in their families, where they could be protected from prejudice and abuse. They faced, and still many of them face different kinds of prejudice, often of  brutal nature, in public spaces, police stations, prisons and even in their homes.   Most hijras are from lower middle-class background families, which makes them susceptible to harassment by the police.( countercurrents.org)

For many hijras, sex work was the only option because not everyone is willing to employ them because of their gender identity. They are the most vulnerable group as they are placed right at the bottom of the hierarchy of sex workers. This is because they cannot ensure that their customers practice safe sex. They also face the risk of violence both from customers and the police.

Here are some videos that talk about the plight and the lives of these hijras.

In the Philippines, they are called “bakla”, or “bading”.  They are often taunted and made fun of, but still considered a part of society.  We don’t have a separate community for the “baklas”.  Some “baklas” like to wear women’s clothing, and some remain attired as men.  Unlike the hijras, the “baklas” can work together with ordinary people.  They are not necessarily separated from the straight people.  They can work in offices, schools, and can handle any position just as we all can.

In other countries like the US, and the UK, they are usually called “drag queens”.  But drag queens don’t necessarily mean they are gay people.  Some of them dress as women just for the purpose of performing on certain event.  There are some, though who are really gay by nature.

Irregardless of what they are called, these people are human beings like all of us.  We should be thankful that we were fortunate to be born normal and sure of our gender.  Whatever they are or what they become is their choice, just as we make our own choices in life.  They all deserve to be treated as human as we want ourselves to be treated by everyone around us.

…just my point of view…

Where are the children?

Latest foxnews on Lam Luong – The man denies that he tossed his children over the bridge.  According to the news, Lam Luong’s attorney, Kulakowski says that Luong was forced to confess to the police that he tossed his own kids over the bridge.  Coast Guard crews who have been searching near the bridge and into the gulf of Mexico still haven’t found the bodies of the children.

“Kulakowski said Luong told him the children were taken Monday morning by a woman named Kim who claimed to know their mother and would get them food and clothes. He said they were not returned later Monday as promised.

He said officers should be searching for Kim and a second woman who left with the children in a van.”

So where are the children, if they are still alive?  Why doesn’t he just tell his family the whole truth about the whereabouts of the kids and what he really had done to them? Have they been kidnapped by this woman whom he claims has taken them from him?  What’s his point of hiding the truth from their mother?

(FoxNews) BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. —  A man angered after a dispute with his wife confessed to tossing his four young children off a bridge, authorities said Wednesday as they searched murky waters for the bodies.
Lam Luong, 37, who is charged with four counts of capital murder, told authorities Tuesday night that he drove to the Dauphin Island bridge and dropped the children from a span that reaches 80 feet in places, said Detective Scott Rivera.
Luong came to coastal Alabama from Vietnam in 1984 and worked in the commercial fishing industry as a shrimper, Police Chief John Joyner and a relative said. He had argued with his wife, Ngoc Phan, before taking the children, he said
.

Now this particular man, according to the news had a crack cocaine habit.  He had rapidly spent money from an insurance settlement after an automobile accident to supply for his drugs.  At first, the family thought that he had traded the children for his supply of drugs.  But what he actually did was worse than they thought.  He heartlessly killed his own children.

Christopher Lee McCuin the next Ed Gein?

Sometimes you just don’t know how things happen.  Worse, you can’t understand why they happen!

Looking at her Myspace profile, Jana Shearer seemed to be a just a young girl who wanted to enjoy life.  She loved music, enjoyed dancing and enjoyed having many friends.  But it just happened.  All of a sudden she’s gone.  Brutally murdered.  Filleted and cooked…by her own boyfriend.  And what is a boyfriend?  Isn’t a boyfriend that same person you actually choose above everyone else to love and to love you back?   I guess the definition of love has changed!

What is with this man Christopher Lee McCuin?  Is he a cannibal?  I can’t actually believe somebody could do such a thing to a human being just like him!  If he isn’t into drugs, he’s definitely insane.  I think it would take a person be totally out of his mind to commit such a gruesome act!  Or maybe this guy is a reincarnation of Ed Gein… the real American Psycho!  Who knows?!?

New Year’s Eve

Posted in Posts with tags , , , , , on January 2, 2008 by paulynramirez

We had macaroni, we had fruit salad and we had Maja Blanca for our Media Noche.  Media Noche is the term Filipinos refer to midnight meal on New Year’s eve.  My Maja Blanca wasn’t so firm… it’s the first time I made one.  But the kids loved it, and I’m so glad!    Angel was crazy about the fruit salad… she loves it so much too.  I was hoping there would be some more left in case my brothers decided to come on New Year’s Day.  Last Christmas Day, they all came unexpected.  It was a good thing I had some salad then, too.  For New Year’s eve, I had to keep my promise to make more salad this time.

I filled a can with coins to make some noise on New Year’s eve.  They said the noise was to drive the bad spirits away.  My kids and I laughed at the idea of shaking the can with coins right on the face of my so-called ”besfren” (the kids call her that way because she despises me… and our feeling is mutual… haha!).  Might drive her crazy instead!  Well, I’d gladly drive her to a shrink if I could… she badly needs one! LOL!

Anyway, we shook the can the moment the clock struck 12mn.  It was really noisy!   After that, we went down to my Mom’s room to greet her a happy new year, and then asked my sister Rai to take some pictures of us as a family.  We all wore yellow, and I planned this.  Yellow stands for prosperity, and we all wish for prosperity for the coming year.  Don’t we all!

I made a few New Year’s resolutions, which I hope to achieve this coming year.  Most of them were personal resolutions, but I posted the first three that are rather usual resolutions anyway.
